Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which he extended greetings on the occasions of Eid and Nowruz and expressed hope for peace and prosperity across West Asia.
During the discussion, Modi voiced concern over recent attacks targeting key infrastructure in the region, noting that such incidents risk destabilising the area and disrupting global supply chains. He emphasised the need to maintain safe and uninterrupted maritime movement, particularly through crucial routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged Iran’s continued cooperation in ensuring the safety of Indian citizens residing in the country. This marks the second interaction between the two leaders since the escalation of hostilities in late February.
Earlier, the Iranian President had briefed Modi on developments related to the conflict, while India reiterated its long-standing position that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.
As tensions persist following military exchanges involving the United States, Israel and Iran, India has been actively engaging with several global leaders, including those from Gulf nations and Europe, to push for de-escalation and regional stability.
