Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stark warning, stating that the ceasefire in Gaza will end if Hamas does not release Israeli hostages by Saturday noon. In a video statement on Tuesday, Netanyahu declared, “The military will return to intense fighting until Hamas is finally defeated.”
Hostage Release Stalls Amid Ceasefire Violations
Hamas, which began releasing Israeli hostages last month as part of a ceasefire agreement, announced on Monday that it would halt further releases, accusing Israel of violating the terms of the deal. The agreement involved Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli hostages. However, Hamas alleged that Israel delayed the return of Palestinians to northern Gaza and obstructed humanitarian aid from reaching the region.
Israel has denied these allegations, insisting that aid supplies have not been blocked and stating that it has only targeted individuals who ignored warnings to stay away from Israeli military positions.
Netanyahu Orders Military Readiness
Following Hamas’s announcement, Netanyahu responded by ordering Israeli forces to prepare for potential renewed combat operations.
"In light of Hamas' decision to violate the agreement and not release our hostages, last night I ordered the IDF to gather forces inside and around the Gaza Strip," he stated after a security cabinet meeting. "This operation is being carried out at this time. It will be completed in the very near future."
US Issues Strong Warning to Hamas
The United States has also weighed in, warning of severe consequences if hostages are not freed by the deadline. Speaking from the Oval Office on Monday, President Donald Trump said, “If all of the hostages aren’t returned by Saturday at 12 o’clock, I think it’s an appropriate time to cancel it, and all bets are off—let hell break out.”
The situation remains tense, with both Israel and Hamas standing firm on their positions, raising concerns over a potential escalation in the ongoing conflict.
