Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav shared the same flight to Delhi on Tuesday, sparking political intrigue amidst heightened developments following the BJP's failure to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha elections.
Both Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav were spotted boarding the Patna-Delhi Vistara flight UK-718 and were seen sitting together, though sources revealed that their conversation steered clear of politics, focusing instead on their well-being. After a brief exchange, Tejashwi Yadav returned to his seat, positioned behind Nitish Kumar.
Their trip to Delhi was to attend separate coalition meetings—NDA and INDIA bloc, respectively—discussing the aftermath of the Lok Sabha election results.
With the BJP-led NDA winning 292 out of 543 seats, falling considerably short of their anticipated 400-seat target, the political landscape has shifted. Notably, the BJP's individual tally of 240 seats marks the first instance since 2014 that the party failed to secure a majority on its own.
In response, the Opposition INDIA bloc, defying earlier projections, put up a strong performance, securing 234 seats. Efforts are now underway to court JD(U) and N Chandrababu Naidu's TDP to forge alliances and thwart the BJP's bid to retain power.
Both Naidu and Nitish Kumar are expected to attend the NDA meeting in Delhi, where Nitish Kumar may reportedly assert his demand for the Speaker's post.
Despite speculation about potential defections, Naidu has reaffirmed his commitment to the NDA, indicating a firm stance from the TDP. However, there have been no direct communications between Naidu and the INDIA bloc representatives as of yet.
