Nitish Kumar Offered PM Post by INDIA Bloc, JDU Rejects, Eyes NDA Alliance
Amid speculation of a Nitish Kumar-INDIA bloc reunion, JDU leader KC Tyagi reveals opposition's offer of prime ministership, as JDU reaffirms commitment to NDA
08-06-2024Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar was reportedly offered the prime ministerial post by the Opposition INDIA bloc following the Lok Sabha election results, according to party leader KC Tyagi in an exclusive interview with NDTV. However, Tyagi clarified that the JDU has declined all such offers and intends to continue working with the NDA for the next five years.
Tyagi emphasized that Nitish Kumar's speech supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi put an end to speculations and reaffirmed the party's commitment to the NDA alliance. He stressed the importance of granting special status to Bihar to facilitate its development, citing disparities in resource allocation post the state's bifurcation.
Speculation about a potential reunion between Nitish Kumar and the INDIA bloc emerged amidst uncertainty over the BJP's ability to secure a majority. Although sources close to Nitish Kumar dismissed this possibility, they underscored past grievances regarding his role within the alliance.
JDU is expected to secure two key posts in the new cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, with senior leaders Lalan Singh and Ram Nath Thakur being proposed for ministerial positions. Singh, elected from Bihar's Munger constituency, and Thakur, a Rajya Sabha MP, are slated to play significant roles in the forthcoming government.
