No 'Sheesh Mahal' for Me, I Built Homes for the People: PM Modi Targets Arvind Kejriwal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused AAP of corruption and misgovernance while showcasing BJP's efforts to uplift Delhi's living standards
03-01-2025Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of widespread corruption and poor governance, referring to its administration as a "disaster" for Delhi. Speaking at an event in Ashok Vihar, PM Modi launched a sharp critique of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, claiming the AAP government prioritized personal luxury over public welfare.
Without naming Kejriwal directly, PM Modi took a veiled dig at the alleged extravagant renovation of the Delhi Chief Minister’s official residence. “I could have built a palace for myself, but my dream is to ensure every Indian has a permanent home,” the Prime Minister said after inaugurating 1,675 flats for slum dwellers under the Delhi Development Authority’s rehabilitation project.
PM Modi contrasted his government’s achievements with the AAP administration, stating, “In the last decade, over four crore homes have been built for the poor across India. My focus has always been on fulfilling the dreams of ordinary citizens, not personal luxuries.”
The BJP has repeatedly accused Kejriwal’s administration of spending around ₹45 crore on refurbishing the Chief Minister’s residence, including ₹6 crore on marble flooring and ₹1 crore on curtains. Addressing the audience, PM Modi said, “They have indulged in scams in liquor, schools, and pollution. This is not governance; it’s a disaster for Delhi.”
PM Modi also called for change in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, saying, “Delhiites are determined to replace this disaster with good governance. The year 2025 will mark a turning point, ushering in a new era of public and national welfare.”
The event also saw PM Modi highlight the Centre’s development initiatives in Delhi, including the housing project for slum dwellers and two urban redevelopment projects. He emphasized the government’s commitment to raising living standards, contrasting it with what he described as the failures of the AAP government.
Responding to the criticism, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi dismissed the BJP’s claims, accusing the party of lacking a clear vision for the city. “The BJP has ruled at the Centre for 10 years with a massive budget, but they have no achievements to show for Delhi. AAP has worked tirelessly for the people of this city, transforming education, healthcare, and basic services,” Atishi said.
Delhi is gearing up for assembly elections in early 2025, with all 70 constituencies set to vote before February. Both AAP and BJP are expected to intensify their campaigns in the coming weeks.
