After Andhra Pradesh, Odisha is set to witness the swearing-in of Chief Minister-designate Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday evening. Majhi, a four-time MLA, was chosen as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Tuesday.
At 52 years old, Majhi is a notable tribal leader in the coastal state. He will be joined by Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida as his deputy Chief Ministers.
The ceremony is scheduled for 5 pm on Wednesday, with a host of top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expected to attend.
Earlier, Majhi met with Odisha Chief Minister and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar to invite him to the ceremony. Majhi stated that Patnaik assured him he would be present. Prior to this, Majhi paid respects at the statues of Odisha's icons, accompanied by his deputy designates.
Following Chandrababu Naidu's swearing-in, PM Modi is set to depart for Bhubaneswar at 12.45 pm, arriving at 2.30 pm, and will then head to Raj Bhavan, according to party sources.
The event will see attendance from various dignitaries, including Union Ministers and BJP chief ministers from other states.
Naveen Patnaik's 24-year tenure as Chief Minister concluded after the BJP won a decisive victory in the state elections, securing 78 seats in the 147-member Assembly, while the BJD managed only 51 seats.
In addition to PM Modi, numerous Union Ministers and BJP state chief ministers are expected to attend the ceremony at Janata Maidan, which is anticipated to draw a crowd of about 30,000 people.
The Odisha government has announced that its offices in Bhubaneswar will be closed from 1 pm in view of the ceremony.
