One Dead, Ten Hospitalized After Eating Street Vendor’s Momos in Hyderabad
A woman died and ten others fell ill after consuming momos from an unlicensed vendor’s stall in Hyderabad, prompting a municipal investigation
29-10-2024In Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills, ten people fell ill after eating momos from a roadside vendor last week, while a woman reportedly died after consuming momos purchased from a separate stall in the area.
According to police, all ten victims had momos prepared by the same vendor, though they purchased them from different stalls within Banjara Hills’ police jurisdiction. Relatives of the deceased woman reported that she became unwell shortly after eating the snack and was later hospitalized.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has since launched an investigation into the vendor's activities. Working with police, food safety officials tracked down the stall, discovering that it was operating without a valid license. Officials have collected samples of the momos for testing and have ordered the vendor to immediately halt operations.
Additionally, the GHMC has requested the Banjara Hills police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and the illnesses of the other affected individuals. Authorities are urging the public to be cautious about consuming food from unlicensed street vendors, emphasizing the importance of food safety.
