India is closely monitoring Pakistan's recent high-level engagements with Bangladesh, raising concerns about regional security. On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that appropriate measures will be taken to safeguard national security in response to these developments.

"We closely observe activities in the region that could affect national security, and the government will take necessary steps," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during a weekly media briefing.

The comments came following a three-day visit by a high-ranking delegation from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), led by Major General Shahid Amir Afsar, to Bangladesh. The visit follows an earlier trip by senior Bangladeshi military officials to Pakistan, where they held meetings with Pakistan's service chiefs.

India is particularly concerned about the growing closeness between Pakistan and Bangladesh amid political changes in Dhaka, including the recent shift in leadership with Muhammad Yunus taking charge. The easing of visa restrictions for Pakistani nationals, including ISI-linked individuals, has further raised alarms about potential intelligence and extremist activities near India’s borders.

“There have been indications of increased ISI and Jamaat-e-Islami activities in Bangladesh, which could have significant implications for India,” a security analyst commented.

Despite these concerns, India emphasized its commitment to fostering a democratic and inclusive Bangladesh. "We support a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh and remain focused on strengthening ties for the prosperity of both nations," Jaiswal added.

On the contentious issue of border fencing, India clarified that the measures are aimed at curbing illegal human and cattle trafficking. Jaiswal reiterated that the fencing is consistent with bilateral agreements between the two countries.

The developments come at a time when regional dynamics are shifting, with India remaining vigilant about its national security while striving to maintain positive relations with its neighbors.
