Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to Keir Starmer, the incoming Prime Minister of the UK, following the Labour Party's significant victory in the general elections. He also acknowledged outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his leadership.

The Labour Party, led by Starmer, achieved a resounding victory in Thursday's parliamentary elections, securing 412 out of 650 seats in the House of Commons, thus ending 14 years of Conservative governance.

PM Modi expressed his eagerness to work with the new UK government to enhance bilateral and strategic relations between the two countries. "Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Keir Starmer on the remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive collaboration to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, fostering mutual growth and prosperity," PM Modi tweeted.

In a separate tweet, Modi thanked Sunak, the UK's first Indian-origin Prime Minister, for his contributions during his tenure. "Thank you, Rishi Sunak, for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future."

The Conservative Party, under Sunak's leadership, faced its worst electoral defeat in history, attributed to the cost-of-living crisis, internal conflicts, and voter dissatisfaction with the party's performance over the past years.

The UK election results marked a landslide victory for the Labour Party, with Starmer set to become the next Prime Minister. Starmer's victory signifies a notable shift in UK politics, with his commitment to "national renewal" and a return to public service.

“Our task is nothing less than renewing the ideas that hold this country together. National renewal. If you work hard, if you play by the rules, this country should give you a fair chance to get on. We have to restore that,” Starmer stated in his victory speech.
