Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his multi-country diplomatic tour with a stop in Rome, where a brief but cheerful moment with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni quickly became the highlight of his visit.

During their meeting in the Italian capital, Modi presented Meloni with a packet of “Melody” toffees — a well-known confectionery brand in India. A video clip circulating on social media shows Meloni holding up the packet and smiling as she describes it as a “very, very good toffee.” Standing beside her, Modi softly says “Melody,” prompting laughter from both leaders.

Meloni later shared the clip online, thanking the Indian Prime Minister for the thoughtful gesture. The moment was also amplified by Parle Products, the company behind Melody, which posted the video with a caption celebrating the sweet exchange.

Melody, produced by Parle, has long been a nostalgic treat for many Indians, known for its caramel outer layer and chocolate-filled centre. The unexpected diplomatic cameo of the candy quickly resonated with social media users back home.

Highlights of the Italy Visit

Rome marked the final destination of Modi’s five-nation tour, which earlier included visits to the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. Shortly after landing in Italy, Modi attended a dinner meeting hosted by Meloni.

The two leaders also toured the iconic Colosseum, one of Rome’s most recognisable historical landmarks, underscoring the cultural dimension of the visit alongside formal discussions.

The light-hearted toffee exchange added a personal touch to the diplomatic engagements, drawing attention online and symbolising a friendly note at the end of the Prime Minister’s overseas trip.
