Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday celebrated the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti coalition's resounding victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for their overwhelming support.
"Development wins! Good governance wins! United we will soar even higher!" the Prime Minister wrote, thanking voters, particularly women and youth, for the historic mandate. "Heartfelt gratitude to my sisters and brothers of Maharashtra for this unparalleled affection and warmth. I assure the people that our alliance will keep working for the state's progress. Jai Maharashtra!"
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the tireless efforts of BJP workers, noting, "Our karyakartas worked hard, connected with the people, and highlighted our good governance agenda."
With the Mahayuti coalition—comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction—leading in 233 of Maharashtra's 288 Assembly seats, the alliance has crossed the halfway mark with ease. Meanwhile, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has managed leads in only 50 seats.
In addition to Maharashtra, Prime Minister Modi briefly commented on the Jharkhand results, where the BJP-led NDA is trailing the ruling Congress-JMM coalition. "I thank the people of Jharkhand for their support and assure them that we will always work for their betterment," he stated, while congratulating Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the INDIA bloc for their victory.
BJP’s Historic Performance in Maharashtra
The BJP is on track for its best-ever showing in Maharashtra, cementing its dominance in the state. With contributions from alliance partners—the Shiv Sena and NCP factions—the Mahayuti coalition has set a new benchmark, becoming the first to cross the 200-seat milestone.
As the results settle, attention now turns to the question of leadership. While Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have publicly assured that the alliance will make the decision amicably, speculation abounds regarding whether Shinde will retain the post or if Fadnavis will return as CM.
JMM-Led INDIA Bloc Retains Power in Jharkhand
In Jharkhand, the Congress-JMM coalition has emerged victorious, leading in 57 of the state's 81 Assembly seats. The BJP-led NDA, which initially gained early leads, struggled to maintain its momentum and is leading in only 23 seats.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren's steady leadership proved crucial in securing another term for the coalition in the mineral-rich state. Despite the BJP's early optimism, the JMM gradually built a decisive lead, solidifying its place in the state’s political landscape.
As Maharashtra celebrates a historic verdict and Jharkhand affirms continuity, the results reflect diverse political currents shaping India's democratic journey.
