Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bestowed with the Order of Oman, the Sultanate’s most distinguished civilian honour, by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Thursday, acknowledging his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
The honour was conferred during PM Modi’s two-day official visit to Oman, which marked the concluding leg of his three-country diplomatic tour following visits to Jordan and Ethiopia.
With this recognition, the Prime Minister adds yet another global honour to his name, taking his tally of top civilian awards from foreign countries to over 28. Among the most recent accolades are Ethiopia’s “Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia” and Kuwait’s “Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer.”
PM Modi’s visit to Muscat holds special significance as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. Discussions during the visit focused on expanding cooperation across key sectors such as trade, investment, energy, defence, and cultural exchange.
The Prime Minister arrived in Oman on Wednesday and was received with full ceremonial honours, including a guard of honour, reflecting the warmth of bilateral relations.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, PM Modi was also awarded Ethiopia’s highest national honour at the Addis International Convention Centre, recognising his leadership and contributions toward strengthening India–Ethiopia relations and his broader role on the global stage.
