PM Modi Leads NDA Chief Ministers' Meeting to Address Governance Challenges
Chief Ministers from 19 NDA-ruled states met in Chandigarh to address governance issues and prepare for events celebrating the Constitution
17-10-2024Chief Ministers from 19 states governed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convened in Chandigarh today for a long-overdue meeting focused on governance and upcoming government initiatives, including the celebration of the Constitution, dubbed Samvidhan ki Amrut Mahotsav. This meeting took place shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following the meeting, PM Modi took to X to share photographs, stating, “Chaired a meeting of NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers. We had extensive discussions on aspects of good governance and ways to improve people's lives. Our alliance is committed to furthering national progress and empowering the poor and downtrodden.”
BJP chief JP Nadda, who attended alongside Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, remarked that this was the first time since Independence that the oath ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir was conducted under the Indian Constitution, in contrast to the previous practice under the Constitution of Jammu & Kashmir.
Amit Shah proposed that in 2025, the party would reflect on how democracy was undermined during the Emergency, while next year would see celebrations for the 150th anniversaries of Birsa Munda and Sardar Patel, as well as the centenary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birth.
The meeting's agenda included national development issues, with discussions planned around the observance of Samvidhan Ka Amrut Mahotsav and the 50th anniversary of the Emergency.
As the BJP and its allies prepare for upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand next month, they aim to harness momentum from their recent victory in Haryana against their opposition rivals. Thirteen Chief Ministers and 16 Deputy Chief Ministers from the BJP were present, along with leaders from NDA partner states, including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Nagaland, and Meghalaya.
