Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt congratulations to head coach Rahul Dravid and the Indian cricket team following their momentous victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. On Saturday, India triumphed over Aiden Markram’s South Africa by 7 runs in Barbados to claim the title. In his congratulatory message, Modi praised Dravid's exceptional coaching tenure and his profound impact on the team's success.

The Prime Minister lauded Dravid for his unwavering commitment, strategic acumen, and talent development, which have played a pivotal role in transforming the Indian cricket team. Modi expressed his gratitude for Dravid's contributions, noting the inspiration he has provided to countless cricket fans.

"Rahul Dravid’s remarkable coaching journey has been instrumental in shaping the success of Indian cricket. His unwavering dedication, strategic insights, and ability to nurture talent have transformed the team. India is thankful for his contributions and for inspiring generations. We are delighted to see him lift the World Cup. It was a pleasure to congratulate him," PM Modi wrote.

Since taking over as head coach in 2021, Dravid had announced that the 2024 T20 World Cup would be his final assignment with the national team. This victory serves as a fitting send-off for Dravid, who has guided the team to numerous achievements, including reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 and finishing as runners-up in both the ODI World Cup 2023 and the World Test Championship 2023.

In the decisive match, India posted a competitive total of 176 for 7, with Virat Kohli scoring a stellar 76 runs off 59 balls. Axar Patel also contributed significantly, narrowly missing a half-century. India successfully defended their score, with Hardik Pandya showing nerves of steel in the final over to secure the win.
