In a nod to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the insignificance of surnames in contemporary India, responding to a viral video where Goyal recounted his startup journey and initial challenges.

At a recent event hosted by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Deepinder Goyal shared an engaging anecdote about the inception of Zomato, sparking widespread attention on social media.

Reflecting on Zomato's beginnings 16 years ago in 2008, Goyal recalled his father's initial skepticism as a hurdle to overcome. Originating from Punjab, Goyal encountered skepticism typical of small-town backgrounds in the startup sphere, with doubts surrounding his potential for success. His father's words, "Janta hai tera baap kaun hai?" (Do you know who your father is?), resonated with him.

In a retweet of the video, PM Modi emphasized that success transcends surnames, lauding Goyal's achievements as a source of inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs.

"In today's India, one's surname is inconsequential. What matters is dedication and diligence. Deepinder Goyal, your journey is truly inspirational! It encourages numerous young minds to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. We are committed to fostering an environment conducive to startup growth," PM Modi remarked.
