Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made history as the first Indian leader to visit Poland in 45 years, arriving in Warsaw to a rousing reception from the Indian diaspora. The Prime Minister’s two-day state visit, which began on Thursday, was marked by enthusiastic cheers from a crowd waving Indian flags at the Raffles Europejski Warsaw Hotel. The welcome also featured a traditional Gujarati dance performance.
PM Modi, who touched down in Poland amid tight security, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception on social media, stating he was "deeply touched by the warm welcome from the Indian community in Poland!" He further noted that their enthusiasm reflects the strong bonds between the two nations.
During his visit, PM Modi engaged with Polish children, enjoyed cultural performances, and posed for photographs with classical dancers. The Prime Minister is scheduled to lay a wreath at the memorial of the Jam Saheb of Nawanagar and visit the monument to the Battle of Monte Cassino.
This visit comes as India and Poland celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations. PM Modi will meet with Polish leaders, including President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation. He is also expected to engage with business leaders, Indologists, and kabaddi players to explore cultural and economic connections.
Before departing for Poland, PM Modi expressed his eagerness to discuss advancing India-Poland relations and to share perspectives on resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Following his visit to Poland, PM Modi will travel to Ukraine, marking the first visit by an Indian leader since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992.
