Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate several major development projects in Delhi on Friday, marking a significant step in the city's infrastructure growth. Among the initiatives are 1,675 newly constructed flats for residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters and two urban redevelopment projects.
PM Modi shared his excitement about the day’s events through his X handle, highlighting the importance of these initiatives for the city. He emphasized that these projects will enhance the 'Ease of Living' for Delhi residents and create opportunities for future generations by providing knowledge, innovation, and an environment conducive to growth.
The development work includes a cutting-edge academic block at the Eastern Campus in Surajmal Vihar, East Delhi, and another at the Western Campus in Dwarka. Additionally, the foundation stone will be laid for the Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, aiming to deliver excellence in education through state-of-the-art facilities.
PM Modi will begin his visit by inaugurating the newly built flats at Swabhiman Apartments, Ashok Vihar, around 12:10 p.m. These flats are part of the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project, and he will also hand over keys to eligible beneficiaries. The project, managed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), aims to provide better living conditions for the residents of JJ clusters.
The flats are priced affordably for the beneficiaries, who pay less than 7% of the total construction cost. For every Rs 25 lakh spent on the construction of a flat, eligible residents contribute only Rs 1.42 lakh, along with a nominal Rs 30,000 fee for five years of maintenance.
In addition to the flats, PM Modi will inaugurate two major urban redevelopment projects: the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar and the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar. The WTC replaces over 600 outdated quarters with modern commercial towers, offering 34 lakh square feet of premium office space. The project emphasizes sustainability, featuring solar energy generation, rainwater harvesting, and a zero-discharge system.
The GPRA Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar, with 28 towers, provide more than 2,500 modern residential units, equipped with eco-friendly systems such as rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment, and solar-powered waste compactors.
PM Modi will also inaugurate the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka, built at an investment of approximately Rs 300 crore. The complex is designed according to the Platinum Rating standards of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), with features like advanced data centers and comprehensive water management systems.
Lastly, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for three projects at Delhi University, totaling over Rs 600 crore. These include the Eastern Campus at Surajmal Vihar, the Western Campus at Dwarka, and the Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh, all designed to provide state-of-the-art educational facilities.
These projects reflect the government's commitment to improving the infrastructure, education, and living conditions in Delhi, fostering both economic and social development.
