Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared a message expressing his concern for legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, who is currently undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital. Taking to X, the Prime Minister said he was worried about her health and wished her a swift and complete recovery.

The 92-year-old music icon was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11. According to her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, the singer was hospitalised due to severe fatigue along with a chest infection. She also appealed to the public and media to respect the family’s privacy while treatment continues, adding that updates would be shared at an appropriate time.

Asha Bhosle’s journey in Indian music spans several decades, during which she has demonstrated extraordinary range — from classical-based melodies and ghazals to cabaret hits and contemporary pop tracks. Over the years, she has worked with celebrated composers such as OP Nayyar, RD Burman and AR Rahman, delivering songs that remain timeless favourites.

Her immense contribution to Indian cinema and music has earned her some of the country’s highest honours. She was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. She has also received two National Film Awards for her performances in Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat.

As news of her hospitalisation spread, messages of support and prayers poured in from admirers across the nation, underlining the deep affection and respect she commands among music lovers of all generations.
