Punjab College Shooting Horror: Student Kills Classmate After Rejected Proposal, Then Shoots Himself
A tragic shooting inside a Tarn Taran law college classroom has left a young woman dead and the accused student fighting for his life
09-02-2026A disturbing act of gun violence shook Mai Bhago Law College in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Monday, when a male student allegedly opened fire on a female classmate during class, killing her before attempting to take his own life.
According to initial investigations, the accused is believed to have attacked the woman after she repeatedly refused his marriage proposals. The entire sequence of events was reportedly recorded on the college’s CCTV surveillance system.
Police identified the suspect as Prince Raj, a resident of Mallian village, while the victim was named Sandeep Kaur from Naushehra Pannuan village, located roughly 12 kilometres from the college.
Authorities said Sandeep Kaur died instantly at the scene, while Prince Raj suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and remains in critical condition at a hospital.
Footage from security cameras shows the accused entering the classroom with a bag over his shoulder shortly before lessons began. He was seen briefly interacting with the victim and another student before sitting at the back of the room. Soon after, he reportedly retrieved a firearm from his bag and fired at Sandeep Kaur at close range, then turned the weapon on himself. Students in the room reportedly ran in panic following the gunshots.
Family members of the victim told media outlets that Prince Raj had been persistently pursuing Sandeep Kaur for months and had visited their home multiple times to propose marriage. They claimed she declined his advances, expressing her desire to prioritize her education.
Relatives further revealed that Sandeep Kaur had recently been engaged to another person, a development that allegedly angered the accused. Her elder sister said he had made threatening remarks in the days leading up to the incident.
She recounted that he had once warned, “If you cannot be with me, I won’t let you be with anyone else,” and added that the shooting occurred while Sandeep was speaking to her on the phone.
The family described the accused’s behavior as obsessive and one-sided, alleging that he continued to pursue Sandeep despite her repeated refusals.
Investigators believe the firearm may have belonged to the accused’s father, a former CRPF personnel, raising concerns about how the weapon was obtained and carried onto campus.
The incident has sparked questions about campus safety and security protocols. The victim’s family has also criticized college authorities, claiming there was a lack of accountability following the shooting.
Sandeep Kaur’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police continue to analyze CCTV footage and witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
