Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his handling of the UGC-NET cancellation and ongoing NEET controversies, alleging government inaction on paper leaks. Gandhi mocked Modi, remarking that while claims were made about his influence in international affairs, he seemed incapable or unwilling to address domestic examination integrity issues.
The UGC-NET exam, conducted on June 18 by the National Testing Agency, was cancelled by the Education Ministry due to suspected compromises in exam security. The matter has since been referred to the CBI for investigation.
Accusing the BJP's parent organization of dominating the education sector, Gandhi claimed that paper leaks persist due to this influence. He labeled the situation as anti-national and blamed Modi for enabling such capture of the education system.
Gandhi further criticized the selection process for university Vice-Chancellors, alleging it favors connections over merit, leading to systemic deterioration akin to the economic impact of demonetization.
Highlighting the consequences for students and the need for accountability, Gandhi pledged to address these issues in Parliament and expressed solidarity with affected NEET candidates.
Currently, Rahul Gandhi plans to meet with students affected by alleged irregularities in the NEET examinations, underscoring the urgency of addressing systemic failures in the education sector.
