Rahul Gandhi Responds to Criticism Over US Remarks, Accuses BJP of Spreading Lies
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi defends his comments on religious freedom during his US trip, accusing the BJP of lying to silence him
21-09-2024Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has addressed the criticism he faced over his remarks on Sikhs during his recent trip to the US. In a post on X, Gandhi accused the BJP of spreading lies to silence him.
"As usual, the BJP is resorting to lies. They are desperate to silence me because they cannot stand the truth. But I will always speak up for the values that define India: our unity in diversity, equality, and love," he wrote.
Gandhi also posed a question to the Sikh community, both in India and abroad, asking, "I want to ask every Sikh brother and sister – is there anything wrong in what I have said? Shouldn't India be a country where every Sikh, and every Indian, can freely practice their religion without fear?"
These comments were in reference to a speech he delivered in Washington DC on September 10, where he emphasized the importance of religious freedom. During the event, Gandhi said, "The fight is about whether a Sikh is allowed to wear a turban, a kara, or go to a Gurdwara in India. This fight is about religious freedom for all faiths."
The BJP criticized Gandhi for his remarks and for sharing a platform with US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a known critic of India, during his US meetings.
