Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized the Agniveer scheme during an election meeting in Haryana, stating that if the Opposition INDIA bloc wins power, the scheme will be scrapped.
He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of transforming Indian soldiers into laborers and highlighted issues concerning farmers.
Gandhi pledged to abolish the Agniveer scheme, emphasizing the importance of patriotism among Indian youth who secure the nation's borders. He criticized the BJP government's handling of the scheme, which recruits personnel into the armed forces for short-term service, contrasting the treatment of Agniveer recruits with regular soldiers.
Additionally, Gandhi promised to prioritize farmers' issues, vowing to waive their debts if the INDIA bloc assumes power and proposing the establishment of a commission for farm debt waivers.
