Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena has removed Rajesh Shah from his position as deputy leader following the controversy surrounding his son Mihir Shah's alleged involvement in a fatal hit-and-run case in Mumbai. The decision comes shortly after Rajesh Shah's arrest and subsequent release on bail.

A brief notice issued by Shiv Sena secretary Sanjay More announced that Rajesh Shah has been relieved of his duties as deputy leader, although he will remain a party member.

Mihir Shah, 24, was apprehended on Tuesday at a resort in Virar after evading the police for three days. He is accused of driving a BMW that collided with a scooter, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old woman and injuring her husband.

Police sources revealed that Mihir confessed to switching seats with his driver and being the one driving at the time of the accident. He also admitted to fleeing the scene and attempting to alter his appearance by shaving his beard.

Rajesh Shah, a close associate of Eknath Shinde, was arrested on Sunday in connection with the case. Authorities allege that he assisted his son's escape and instructed the family driver to take the blame for the incident. Rajesh Shah is also accused of providing false information and tampering with evidence.

Mihir Shah has been charged with culpable homicide and is scheduled to appear in court today, where the police will request his custody for further investigation.

The incident has sparked public outrage, with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde pledging to take strict action against those involved, regardless of their social status or political affiliations.

In response to the incident, Mumbai's civic body has taken action against the Juhu bar where Mihir Shah was partying before the accident, demolishing an illegally constructed portion of the establishment.

The Shinde Sena, part of the ruling Mahayuti coalition, has faced criticism from the Opposition over the handling of the case. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has called for the BMW crash to be treated as murder and questioned the delay in apprehending Mihir Shah.

"Where was Mihir Shah hiding for 60 hours? The Chief Minister must answer," Thackeray demanded.
