Rekha Gupta, a first-time legislator and a prominent Baniya leader within the BJP, assumed office as the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi during an elaborate swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan. The event was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other senior leaders.
Following the oath-taking, the newly-formed cabinet convened its inaugural meeting, during which it decided to present 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the upcoming Assembly session. These reports highlight financial irregularities linked to the liquor policy and alleged excessive expenditure on the renovation of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.
The Gupta-led administration also resolved to prioritize its electoral commitments, including the implementation of the Mahila Samman Yojana, offering a monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 to women in Delhi. Furthermore, the government approved the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, previously declined by the AAP government. A top-up scheme was sanctioned, providing an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government over the Rs 5 lakh coverage from the central government.
The BJP clinched a decisive victory in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, securing 48 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to win 22, ending its ten-year reign in the capital.
