Reliance Jio has quietly brought back its Rs 999 prepaid plan, adjusting the offering following a recent tariff increase that had raised the price to Rs 1,199 on July 3, 2024. This refreshed plan provides users with an extended validity period of 98 days, up from the earlier 84 days, granting an extra 14 days of service.

However, the plan now includes 2GB of data per day, totaling 192GB over its validity, a decrease from the previous 3GB daily allocation, which amounted to 252GB. Despite this reduction in daily data, the Rs 999 plan offers unlimited 5G data for customers in areas covered by Jio’s True 5G service and who use 5G-compatible devices. This plan, branded as the “Hero 5G” plan, also includes 100 SMS per day and unlimited voice calling.

In comparison, Airtel’s competing Rs 979 plan offers a similar 2GB of data per day and unlimited voice calling with 100 SMS per day over a validity period of 84 days. Airtel’s plan also includes unlimited 5G data and adds value with a free Amazon Prime membership for 56 days.

Jio's reintroduced Rs 999 plan aims to strike a balance between longer validity and access to unlimited 5G data, despite the reduced daily data allowance. As competition in the telecom industry heats up, both Jio and Airtel continue to adjust their offerings to attract and retain customers.
