Matheus Pavlak, a 19-year-old Brazilian bodybuilder, was found dead at his home on Sunday afternoon, reportedly from a heart attack. Pavlak, who began bodybuilding to combat obesity, had rapidly transformed his physique over the past five years, becoming a rising star in the sport. He competed regularly in bodybuilding contests in the southern state of Santa Catarina, where he lived. Pavlak recently placed fourth and sixth in regional competitions and had won the U23 contest in 2023, earning the title of "Mr. Blumenau" in his hometown, according to reports from TMZ.

The sudden death of the young athlete has fueled speculation about the potential role of anabolic steroids in his heart attack, with social media critics pointing to his remarkable physical transformation. However, friends and acquaintances have fiercely defended Pavlak's memory, rejecting the accusations. One acquaintance expressed outrage on social media, saying, "How can people be so insensitive as to insult the memory of someone who is no longer here to defend himself?"

Pavlak had proudly documented his fitness journey, posting images of his transformation online with captions that emphasized perseverance: "No matter how difficult or impossible your dream is, if you really want it, you will get there. I DID."

His former coach, Lucas Chegatti, mourned Pavlak's loss, sharing a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. "Today ends on a sad note with the loss of a great friend and a spectacular young man who left us far too soon," wrote Chegatti. "Matheus had a brilliant future ahead of him as an athlete, and this tragedy has taken us all by surprise. God has his plans, but it's hard to understand. My heart feels heavy."

Chegatti, who met Pavlak in 2022 and became his first trainer, also recalled the pride he felt in coaching the young athlete. "I promised him one day he would beat me, and when we competed against each other for the first time, he did."

Pavlak's death is the latest in a string of tragedies within the bodybuilding community, raising concerns about the health risks associated with the sport. Earlier this year, Brazilian bodybuilder Jonas Filho died at 29 after battling COVID-19, and in May, a 50-year-old Majorcan bodybuilder, also a cancer survivor, passed away.
