A roof slab under construction at Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh collapsed on Saturday, trapping several workers and leaving at least 25 people rescued, with several others feared trapped, officials reported.

Rescue operations are underway, with police and emergency personnel, including a team from the State Disaster Response Force, working at the site. Nine workers have sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

Kanpur Commissioner K Vijayendra Pandian, who is overseeing the operations, expressed hope that no one else remained trapped, while assuring thorough searches would continue. Kannauj District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl confirmed the incident occurred when the shuttering of the under-construction roof collapsed.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered swift action, directing officials to provide immediate relief and ensure proper medical care for the injured.
