A group of Khalistani supporters attempted to disrupt External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to London, with their protest escalating into a security incident. As Jaishankar was departing from Chatham House following a discussion, a protester rushed towards his convoy and tore the Indian national flag in full view of law enforcement officers.

Footage circulating online captures the moment when the individual ran aggressively toward the minister’s vehicle while the police initially hesitated to intervene. The video shows the protester ripping the tricolour while others in the crowd shouted slogans. Shortly after, security personnel stepped in and detained the individual along with other demonstrators.

Another video from the scene shows Khalistani activists gathering outside the venue, waving flags and chanting in support of their cause as they demonstrated against the Indian government.

The incident took place during Jaishankar’s official visit to the United Kingdom, scheduled from March 4 to March 9. Earlier in his trip, he engaged in high-level discussions at Chevening House with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Their talks covered key bilateral matters, including strategic cooperation, political ties, trade negotiations, educational exchanges, technological collaboration, mobility policies, and broader people-to-people interactions.

During his discussion at Chatham House, Jaishankar was questioned on whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi could leverage former US President Donald Trump’s past interest in brokering peace to resolve the Kashmir dispute with Pakistan.

Responding firmly, Jaishankar reiterated India’s stance, dismissing the need for third-party involvement. He highlighted that India had already taken substantial measures to address the issue, such as revoking Article 370, promoting economic development in the region, and overseeing elections with strong voter participation.

However, he noted that a key aspect of the issue remained unresolved due to external factors. “The part we are waiting for is the return of the region illegally occupied by Pakistan. Once that is achieved, I assure you, Kashmir will be fully resolved,” Jaishankar asserted.
