Senior Hezbollah Leader Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hammadi Shot Dead in Lebanon
Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hammadi, a wanted Hezbollah commander, was fatally shot outside his home in eastern Lebanon, reportedly due to a family dispute
22-01-2025Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hammadi, a senior Hezbollah leader who was listed on the FBI's most-wanted list, was reportedly shot dead outside his residence in eastern Lebanon. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when unidentified attackers fired six shots at Hammadi, killing him instantly.
Local reports have attributed the killing to a prolonged family feud, dismissing any potential political motives behind the attack.
Hammadi gained notoriety for his involvement in the 1985 hijacking of a West German aircraft with 153 passengers onboard. He was accused of torturing and killing an American passenger during the incident, which brought him under the scrutiny of U.S. authorities.
This development comes amidst a fragile ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. Hezbollah, which aligned with Hamas in their 2023 conflict with Israel, has been a target of Israeli operations. Last year, Israel disrupted Hezbollah's supply chain, causing devices such as walkie-talkies and pagers to detonate across Syria and Israel. Additionally, Israeli forces eliminated several high-ranking Hezbollah leaders, including Hassan Nasrallah, in operations that preceded the ceasefire.
