Sikh Group Protests Rahul Gandhi's Comments on Sikh Rights
A Sikh group protested outside Rahul Gandhi's Delhi residence, criticizing his remarks on Sikh religious freedoms made during his visit to the US
11-09-2024A BJP-affiliated Sikh group held a protest outside Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi, condemning his recent comments about the Sikh community's religious freedom in India. The demonstrators attempted to breach police barricades on Janpath Road during the protest.
This protest follows remarks made by Rahul Gandhi during his four-day visit to the US. While addressing a gathering of Indian Americans in Herndon, Virginia, Gandhi highlighted concerns about religious freedom in India, saying, "The fight is about whether a Sikh is allowed to wear his turban or kada in India, and whether he can freely visit a gurdwara. This fight is not just for Sikhs but for all religions."
His statement prompted backlash from the BJP, accusing him of creating a "dangerous narrative" by raising sensitive issues while abroad. The protesting group carried placards with messages such as, "Why does Rahul Gandhi defame Sikhs abroad? Shame on you."
The police maintained control of the situation as the investigation into the protest continues.
