Just hours after commending Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for what she described as “zero-tolerance” policies that brought justice to women like her, Samajwadi Party legislator Pooja Pal was expelled from the party over alleged anti-party conduct.
Speaking in the state assembly, Pal credited the Chief Minister’s approach in Prayagraj for ensuring justice for women and taking firm action against criminals such as Atiq Ahmed, whom she accuses of murdering her husband. “I wish to express my gratitude to the Chief Minister for delivering justice when no one else did,” she said.
Her comments were followed swiftly by disciplinary action. A letter signed by SP national president Akhilesh Yadav, dated August 14, 2025, accused her of “serious indiscipline” and “anti-party activities” despite repeated warnings. The communication confirmed her removal from all positions within the party and barred her from attending any future events or meetings organized by the SP.
The statement stirred discontent within party ranks. Chief Whip Kamaal Akhtar termed her remarks a personal choice, adding that if she did not align with party views, she should have resigned.
On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh Minister JPS Rathore praised Adityanath’s administration, noting that Pal’s long-standing grievances—linked to crimes by Atiq Ahmed—were finally addressed under the current government.
