Ratan Tata, the iconic industrialist and philanthropist who passed away on Wednesday, will be honored with a state funeral by the Maharashtra government. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who described Tata as a "unique blend of morality and entrepreneurship," also announced a day of mourning on Thursday to pay tribute to the business titan.

Tata's mortal remains will be placed at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point, South Mumbai, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, allowing the public to pay their respects. At 3:30 p.m., his body will be transported to the Worli crematorium for the last rites. Home Minister Amit Shah will represent the central government at the ceremony.

In a statement, Tata’s family confirmed, "The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will be taken to the NCPA Lawns, Nariman Point, Mumbai, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday for members of the public to pay their last respects and homage."

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) announced that government buildings in Maharashtra will fly the national flag at half-mast as a mark of mourning, and all entertainment events will be suspended for the day. Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar also confirmed the cancellation of all state government events scheduled for Thursday.

Chief Minister Shinde shared a heartfelt tribute on X (formerly Twitter), praising Tata for his leadership and influence. "Ratanji Tata was a living legend who successfully led the Tata Group with a tradition of excellence and integrity spanning nearly 150 years. His decisiveness and mental toughness continually propelled the Tata Group to new heights," Shinde wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute, calling Tata a visionary leader with a deep sense of compassion. "Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s most prestigious business houses, but his impact extended far beyond the boardroom. His humility, kindness, and commitment to improving society endeared him to many," PM Modi said.

Ratan Tata’s passing has left a profound impact across the nation, with tributes pouring in from all corners, celebrating his contributions to industry, society, and the nation at large.
