A dramatic incident unfolded at the entrance of the Golden Temple in Amritsar when a man opened fire at Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal, on Wednesday. The assailant, identified as Narain Singh Chorha, a member of Dal Khalsa, was quickly subdued by bystanders and handed over to the police.

At the time of the attack, Sukhbir Badal, wheelchair-bound and dressed in a blue 'sewadar' uniform, was serving as a guard at the temple entrance as part of a religious penance. According to sources, Badal escaped unhurt. Videos from the scene captured the tense moments as Badal, holding a spear, ducked for safety when the shooter pulled out a firearm. Temple officials and individuals nearby acted swiftly, overpowering the attacker before he could cause harm.

The incident has raised concerns about security in the vicinity of the revered shrine, and an investigation into the motives behind the attack is underway.
