Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, who was arrested in connection with the alleged assault of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan reviewed Kumar's bail plea and challenged the validity of his arrest.

Justice Bhuyan, during the hearing, pointed out that Kumar had already spent 100 days in judicial custody and noted that the chargesheet had been filed. Observing that Maliwal's injuries were not severe, the judge remarked, "It's a case for bail. You should not oppose this. Keeping someone in jail for such a case is not justified."

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing Delhi Police, argued that some key witnesses were under Kumar’s influence and requested to examine them before the court's decision. However, Justice Bhuyan dismissed the apprehension as "far-fetched."

The incident occurred on May 13 at the Chief Minister's residence, where Maliwal accused Kumar of physically assaulting her. A medical report from AIIMS confirmed bruises on her face and leg. Following the complaint, Kumar was arrested on May 18 and charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 308, 341, 354B, and 506.

Last month, Kumar's judicial custody was extended until September 13 by a Delhi court.
