AAP leader Swati Maliwal stated on Thursday that she would have willingly given up her Rajya Sabha membership if the party had asked her to do so. In an interview with ANI, Maliwal addressed reports suggesting that the AAP wanted her to vacate her Rajya Sabha seat for a specific lawyer, which may have caused friction within the party.

"If they had asked me politely to give up my Rajya Sabha membership, I would have done it without hesitation. I have never been driven by greed or ambition," Maliwal remarked. She shared that she left her engineering career to join the party in 2006, working closely with key members and contributing significantly to the party's efforts.

Despite her past dedication, Maliwal declared that she would not resign now and no force could compel her to relinquish her Rajya Sabha seat, especially given her treatment by the party. She lamented the "character assassination" and "victim shaming" she faced but expressed determination to continue working diligently and set an example of an ideal parliamentarian.

Maliwal reflected on how egos can cloud judgment, stating, "When ego takes over, it becomes difficult to discern truth from falsehood, right from wrong." She expressed disappointment over being isolated and subjected to character attacks, noting that the issue of inflated egos starts at the top.

The former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief vowed to work even harder despite the challenges, aiming to demonstrate her commitment and capabilities as a parliamentarian.
