The state government will provide cars to every MLA to make it easier for legislators to travel to their constituencies and respond to local concerns. Each MLA will also receive ₹75,000 a month towards the driver's salary and vehicle-related expenses.
In addition, ₹25,000 per month will be allocated for an assistant at each MLA's office.
A senior DMK legislator said previous governments had received similar requests but had not approved them because of financial considerations. The MLA noted that elected representatives at the local-government level, including mayors, deputy mayors and municipal and union chairpersons, already have access to official vehicles.
The announcement reportedly drew a positive response among legislators, particularly after Vijay spoke to senior MLA N Anand following Jothimani's demand in the Assembly.
₹351 crore boost for medical education
The government has also earmarked ₹351 crore to expand capacity in government medical and allied healthcare institutions.
The proposed expansion will add 6,098 seats across different programmes. This includes 660 BSc Nursing seats, 1,925 additional nursing seats, 2,778 seats across 12 paramedical programmes and 735 new medical seats.
Tamil Nadu will also get seven new government nursing colleges under the plan.
Perambalur to get 400-bed hospital
A new 400-bed multi-speciality hospital is planned for Perambalur at an estimated investment of ₹300 crore.
The proposed facility is intended to provide advanced medical care and expand access to specialised treatment in the region.
Health insurance cover may rise to ₹25 lakh
Another major proposal involves the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. The annual treatment coverage is set to increase from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh.
The scheme will also expand access to medical and surgical treatment for transgender people. Services will be made available at government hospitals in Chennai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Chengalpattu, Thiruvarur, Karur and Kanyakumari.
The announcements made under Rule 110 cover a range of measures, from improving support for legislators and expanding nursing and medical education to strengthening hospital infrastructure and widening access to healthcare insurance.
