Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, addressing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. During their exchange, PM Modi voiced his concerns over the rising tensions in the region, highlighting the importance of combating terrorism. He emphasized that "terrorism has no place in our world."
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi stressed the need to prevent further regional escalation and prioritize the safe release of all hostages. He reaffirmed India's commitment to contributing toward peace and stability in the region.
The call between Modi and Netanyahu comes as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Israel has been conducting airstrikes against Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group based in Lebanon, and has reportedly eliminated several high-ranking Hezbollah officials, including its leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
In addition, reports from the Washington Post suggest that Israel is preparing for a limited ground operation in Lebanon. US officials have been informed of this planned campaign, which is expected to be more restrained compared to the 34-day Lebanon War in 2006. That conflict began after Hezbollah fighters attacked an Israeli convoy, killing and capturing several soldiers, prompting a large-scale Israeli response.
This time, Israel's focus is on targeting militant infrastructure near its border to reduce threats to nearby communities. On Monday, Israeli forces carried out smaller-scale raids in Lebanon, as confirmed by an Israeli official familiar with the situation.
