A robust security apparatus comprising five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandoes, drones, and snipers will envelop the Rashtrapati Bhawan for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony scheduled on May 9, according to Delhi Police officials. With dignitaries from SAARC nations expected to attend, the national capital will maintain a heightened state of alert. Designated routes will be provided to the dignitaries for seamless movement to and from the venue. Leading figures from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Seychelles are anticipated to grace the occasion. To ensure comprehensive security, hotels such as Leela, Taj, ITC Maurya, Claridges, and Oberoi have been brought under surveillance.

Delhi Police's SWAT and NSG commandoes will be stationed around the President’s house and key locations during the event. With meticulous planning underway, a three-tiered security arrangement will fortify both the interior and exterior of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Approximately 2500 police personnel, along with paramilitary forces and Delhi Armed Police (DAP) jawans, are slated for deployment around the venue. Snipers and armed police will be strategically positioned along the routes of dignitaries, while drones will monitor vital locations within the New Delhi district. This security protocol mirrors the stringent measures implemented during the G20 summit last year.

Precautionary measures include potential road closures and enhanced border checks, starting from Saturday. Modi’s anticipated third consecutive term as prime minister, following the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance's resounding victory in the Lok Sabha polls, underscores the significance of the event. The selection of foreign leaders aligns with New Delhi’s "Neighbourhood First Policy" and strategic emphasis on key island nations in the Indian Ocean region.
