Trump Hints at Advisory Role for Elon Musk; Musk Responds with Interest
Donald Trump has suggested he might offer Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk an advisory role if elected, to which Musk has responded with interest on social media
20-08-2024After U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump hinted that he might offer Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk a position as an advisor in his administration, Musk responded with a social media post that read, "I am willing to serve." The post humorously features Musk standing behind a podium labeled "Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)," a playful reference to Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency meme.
Trump, the Republican frontrunner in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, made the offer during a campaign event, suggesting that if elected, he would consider Musk for a cabinet position or advisory role. Trump’s comments followed his criticism of the $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicle purchases, a policy he indicated he might revoke if he returns to the White House.
"Tax credits and incentives are generally not a good thing," Trump remarked after his event in Pennsylvania. When asked specifically about appointing Musk to a role in his administration, Trump responded positively, stating, "He's a very smart guy. I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He's a brilliant guy."
Musk, who recently endorsed Trump for the presidency, has not made any direct statements about accepting such a position. However, his post on X (formerly known as Twitter) has ignited speculation about his possible involvement in a future Trump administration.
