Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Launches Tomato Sale Initiative at Rs 60/kg in Delhi-NCR
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi introduces a new scheme to sell tomatoes at reduced prices across Delhi-NCR amidst rising food costs
29-07-2024Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, has introduced a new initiative to sell tomatoes at a reduced price through the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) across various locations in Delhi-NCR. This move aims to address the recent spike in tomato prices nationwide.
Under this initiative, tomatoes will be available at Rs 60 per kilogram at multiple locations across Delhi-NCR. "From today onwards, subsidized tomatoes will be sold for Rs 60 per kg," announced Joshi.
The minister highlighted that the Centre has established a Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF) to manage rising food prices and safeguard consumer interests. "When essential commodity prices rise, we use the PSF to procure these commodities directly from farmers, reducing intermediary costs and ensuring availability to consumers," Joshi explained.
However, in this instance, the PSF was not utilized as tomatoes were directly procured from mandis. Joshi emphasized that this initiative will help stabilize tomato prices and make them more affordable for consumers.
Starting today, tomatoes can be purchased for Rs 60 per kilogram at various locations, including Rajiv Chowk Metro, Patel Chowk Metro, Nehru Place, Krishi Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Colony, Hauz Khas Head Office, Parliament Street, INA Market, Mandi House, Kailash Colony, I.T.O, South Extension, Moti Nagar, Dwarka, Noida (Sector 14 and 76), Rohini, and Gurugram. Additional retail locations may be added in the coming days to further enhance consumer convenience.
