US Pushes 15-Point Iran Peace Plan Amid War, Ceasefire Proposal Faces Tough Resistance
Washington proposes sweeping deal including nuclear curbs and Strait reopening, but Tehran remains unconvinced
25-03-2026The United States has presented a detailed 15-point framework to Iran aimed at ending the ongoing Middle East conflict, combining strict military conditions with limited economic relief. The proposal reportedly calls for significant restrictions on Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes, cessation of support to regional proxy groups, and reopening of the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
As part of the plan, Washington is also seeking a temporary ceasefire of around a month to create space for negotiations. In return, the US has indicated it could ease some sanctions, allow a UN-supervised civilian nuclear programme outside Iran, and explore avenues to support Iran’s economic recovery. However, given Tehran’s past opposition to similar demands, acceptance of the proposal in its current form appears unlikely.
The plan has also caught some Israeli officials off guard, particularly as the conflict continues to intensify. Meanwhile, the US is reinforcing its military presence in the region, with thousands of additional troops being deployed alongside existing forces.
Diplomatic channels remain active, with reports suggesting the proposal was conveyed to Iran through intermediaries, including Pakistan, which has offered to host potential talks. While Washington has signalled willingness to participate in negotiations, Iran has denied any substantive engagement beyond limited indirect contact.
Notably, the framework is believed to be an updated version of an earlier proposal discussed in 2025, which had included similar demands such as reducing uranium stockpiles, limiting enrichment activities, and placing conditions on sanctions relief.
Despite claims from US leadership about progress in discussions, Iranian officials have dismissed such assertions, accusing Washington of using negotiation narratives to stabilise markets and delay military escalation.
Analysts suggest the proposal may represent an attempt by the US to create an exit pathway from the conflict. However, deep mistrust between the two sides, evolving demands, and internal dynamics within Iran continue to pose significant challenges to any breakthrough.
