The United States has sanctioned 275 individuals and organizations, with 15 Indian entities among them, over alleged involvement in supporting Russia's military-industrial complex, according to a statement from the Department of Treasury on Thursday.
Companies from China, Switzerland, Thailand, and Turkey are also affected by the sanctions, imposed for supplying advanced technology and equipment that Russia requires to maintain its military operations, the Treasury said.
In addition to addressing global networks evading sanctions, the measures target domestic Russian firms importing and producing essential materials for its military base, according to the Treasury statement.
Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo emphasized that the US, along with its allies, is determined to restrict Russia’s access to crucial technology and tools used in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. “Our actions today show our unrelenting commitment to weaken Russia’s military capabilities and halt those aiding it through evasive tactics,” Adeyemo stated.
The State Department is also focused on cracking down on sanctions evasion in other nations, including several Chinese companies exporting dual-use goods that fill critical shortages for Russia’s military, as well as entities and individuals in Belarus associated with the Lukashenka regime’s support for Russia’s defense industry.
The US also included high-ranking officials in Russia’s Ministry of Defense, defense firms, and supporters of Russia's energy production and export sectors in the sanctions list.
The Treasury’s list includes Indian companies such as Abhar Technologies and Services Private Limited, Denvas Services Private Limited, Emsystech, Galaxy Bearings Ltd, and Orbit Fintrade LLP. Other Indian firms named include Innovio Ventures, KDG Engineering Private Limited, and Khushbu Honing Private Limited, among others.
Just a day earlier, the US imposed additional sanctions on nearly 400 entities and individuals for aiding Russia’s ongoing war efforts.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed on Wednesday that the US has taken action against parties circumventing sanctions in multiple third countries, targeting senior officials within Russia’s Ministry of Defense, defense companies, and individuals linked to the Lukashenka regime. Chinese companies supplying dual-use goods that address gaps in Russia’s military have also been sanctioned, along with entities and individuals tied to Belarus’s support for Russia’s defense industry.
