Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has been admitted to a private hospital in Thane district after doctors discovered clots in his brain during a medical examination. The 52-year-old was admitted to Akruti Hospital in the Kalher area of Bhiwandi on December 21 following complaints of a urinary infection and cramps, according to Dr. Vivek Trivedi, who is treating him.
Dr. Trivedi explained that further tests revealed the presence of brain clots, and Kambli’s condition is being closely monitored. Additional tests are scheduled for Tuesday. The hospital’s in-charge, S. Singh, has offered to provide Kambli with free, lifelong treatment at the facility.
Kambli, a member of India’s 1996 World Cup squad, has faced ongoing health and financial difficulties since retiring from professional cricket. He has dealt with heart issues, including two heart attacks in 2013, as well as a severe urinary infection and struggles with alcoholism.
Earlier this year, Kambli shared his gratitude for financial assistance from Sachin Tendulkar, dispelling rumors of a rift between the two childhood friends. The former cricketer grew emotional when he reunited with Tendulkar at a recent memorial event for their childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar.
Support from the cricketing community has poured in for Kambli, with former players such as Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev offering help. Despite his challenges, Kambli remains a beloved figure in Indian cricket, remembered for his contributions on the field and his close association with cricket legend Tendulkar.
