Meta appears to be gearing up for its next big move in the smart eyewear arena — this time teaming up with Oakley. A fresh Instagram account named @oakleymeta recently surfaced, sparking curiosity. Hype grew after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Oakley, and Instagram’s official handle all shared the same teaser clip. While the video offers few clues, the caption — “The next evolution is coming on June 20” — has fueled speculation about what’s in store.

This potential collaboration, shifting the focus from lifestyle to performance, marks Meta’s third partnership with eyewear conglomerate EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of both Oakley and Ray-Ban. Unlike the Ray-Ban collaborations that leaned heavily into everyday style and smart features, the Oakley partnership appears to be heading into athletic territory, with possible appeal to runners, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Meta’s previous ventures in smart eyewear include the Ray-Ban Stories in 2021 and the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses in 2023. The latest version launched in India in 2025, priced from ₹29,900, and came equipped with Meta AI-powered features like voice control, live translation, WhatsApp support, and integrated cameras. While impressive, the Ray-Ban glasses were best suited to casual users — not designed for intense movement or sports.

That could be changing. The new Oakley x Meta glasses, reportedly codenamed “Supernova 2,” are said to take design cues from Oakley’s Sphaera — a pair of high-performance shades popular with multi-sport athletes. Early leaks hint that the camera may be positioned at the center of the frame rather than on the sides, potentially offering better perspective footage during action-packed use like biking or trail running.

One lingering question for Indian consumers is availability. While the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses eventually launched in India, it took time to reach the market. With increasing demand for AI wearables in the country, the Oakley model could follow a similar path — likely arriving after its initial global release.

With the official reveal set for June 20, more information on specs, pricing, and availability is expected soon. Until then, the tech world is watching closely to see how Meta blends athletic performance with augmented intelligence.
