A fresh video circulating on social media shows former IPL chief Lalit Modi partying in London with absconding businessman Vijay Mallya, reigniting public anger in India. In the clip, Modi is heard jokingly presenting himself and Mallya as the country’s “biggest fugitives,” a remark widely interpreted as a taunt aimed at Indian authorities.

The video was uploaded by Lalit Modi on Instagram, accompanied by a provocative caption wishing Mallya a happy birthday and suggesting the post would “break the internet” in India. The unapologetic tone of the post has drawn widespread backlash, with several users accusing both men of ridiculing the Indian justice system.

Social media reactions were swift and scathing, with one comment calling the video a “mockery of the Indian government.” The clip is the latest in a series of public appearances by the two men together abroad, reinforcing perceptions that their social outings have become a recurring spectacle.

Earlier this month, Lalit Modi had hosted an elaborate birthday celebration for Mallya at his London residence, which also attracted attention after details and images were shared online. Describing the event as a grand celebration, Modi referred to Mallya as the “King of Good Times” and marked the businessman’s 70th birthday as a milestone moment.

Photos from the gathering, shared by photographer Jim Rydell, showed Modi and Mallya together, along with other prominent attendees. The guest list reportedly included Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, actor Idris Elba, and fashion designer Manoviraj Khosla. Images of the guests interacting at the event quickly went viral, fuelling criticism and online trolling.

Both men have been living outside India for years amid serious legal cases. Lalit Modi left the country in 2010 after being removed as IPL chairman over allegations involving financial misconduct. Vijay Mallya fled India in 2016 following the collapse of Kingfisher Airlines and is facing charges of fraud and money laundering linked to loans exceeding ₹9,000 crore. He continues to reside in the UK while contesting extradition proceedings.
