The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a water cut in the city due to dwindling water reserves, with measures set to commence from May 30, starting with a 5 per cent reduction and escalating to 10 per cent by June 5. This move aims to prolong the utilization of available water stock as a precautionary measure until satisfactory rainfall replenishes the water bodies.
"The BMC administration is closely monitoring the water stock and implementing a systematic water supply strategy daily. Mumbaikars need not panic, but we urge all citizens to use water responsibly," stated the BMC in a tweet.
Currently, Mumbai's dams hold 1,40,202 million litres of water, with only 9.69 per cent of the required 14,47,363 million litres per annum available as of May 25. The BMC emphasizes the importance of water conservation and urges residents to cooperate with conservation efforts by adopting water-saving practices.
