The Delhi High Court on Thursday postponed a hearing on Priya Kapur’s plea to submit a confidential list of her late husband Sunjay Kapur’s personal assets and liabilities. The request is part of the ongoing inheritance dispute involving Karisma Kapoor’s children, who are seeking a share in Sunjay Kapur’s estate.
Represented by senior advocate Shyel Trehan, Priya Kapur argued that the financial information is sensitive and its disclosure could cause irreparable harm, including cybersecurity risks. She proposed that the details either be filed under strict confidentiality or accessed through a “Confidentiality Club,” allowing parties to view the information without public exposure.
The court raised concerns over restricting access, noting that heirs require full details to respond effectively. Questions were also raised about the unusual use of NDAs in a partition suit. Trehan assured the bench she would provide supporting precedents in the next hearing.
Advocates for Karisma Kapoor’s children stressed that asset information should largely remain accessible, citing reports of empty bank accounts. Senior advocate Amit Sibal, representing Sunjay Kapur’s mother and other heirs, emphasized that complete access is essential to verify the will independently.
Another related application filed by Rani Kapur sought a copy of the will dated March 21, 2025. Both matters were adjourned to allow parties to propose a method that balances privacy with the legal rights of all involved.
The case highlights the challenges of maintaining confidentiality in high-profile inheritance disputes while ensuring heirs can exercise their legal rights.
