Prajwal Revanna Remanded to Custody Until June 6
Suspended Janata Dal Secular leader Prajwal Revanna, facing rape accusations, was arrested at Bengaluru airport on his arrival from Germany and sent to police custody until June 6
31-05-2024Suspended Janata Dal Secular (JDS) leader and MP Prajwal Revanna, who faces rape allegations, was arrested upon his arrival at Bengaluru airport from Germany this morning. He has been remanded to police custody until June 6. The arrest, carried out by a team of female officers, was commended as a positive step by former top cop and politician K Bhaskar Rao, highlighting the strength of women in Karnataka's police force. Following the arrest, Revanna underwent a medical examination before appearing in court for a remand hearing, where the police requested custody for 14 days to examine evidence, including his mobile phone and seized luggage. However, his lawyers argued that a single day was sufficient. Earlier, a special court had rejected Revanna's anticipatory bail plea.
Revanna's case gained attention when he left for Germany shortly after videos of alleged sexual assault surfaced, using his diplomatic passport. The outgoing MP from Hassan faces allegations of sexual assault from multiple women, leading to a legal battle between the Congress government and the BJP over his return to India. Despite his statements claiming innocence and cooperation, the accusations have intensified, with cases filed against him and his father, HD Revanna, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka. Revanna has consistently denied the charges, attributing them to political vendetta.
The complex legal and political saga surrounding Prajwal Revanna underscores the ongoing debate over justice, politics, and gender issues in Karnataka's political landscape.
