The Supreme Court delivered its detailed judgment on Friday, deciding against canceling the NEET-UG medical entrance exam despite ongoing controversies regarding paper leaks and other irregularities. The court found no evidence that the alleged leak significantly impacted the integrity of the entire exam.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, who led the three-judge bench, criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA) for its mishandling of the situation. He pointed out issues such as allowing candidates to change exam centers and the problematic decision to award and later retract grace marks for 1,563 students.

In response to these issues, the court directed an expert committee, established by the government on June 22, to review and enhance the security measures of the exam process. The committee has been tasked with creating a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for various aspects of the exam process and to submit its report by September 30, 2024. The Ministry of Education will then implement the recommendations within a month and report back to the court.

Additionally, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its first charge sheet in the NEET exam paper leak case, naming 13 individuals involved in the alleged irregularities. The CBI is continuing its investigation, with six FIRs lodged in connection with the case.
